Debbie was licensed in 1983 as a sales associate in Connecticut. She lived her whole life within a few miles of Torrington, CT. Debbie is a graduate of Northwest Connecticut Community Technical College with an Associate Degree in the Secretarial Arts as well as Business Administration.
Debbie started her real estate career with Bredice and Dean of Torrington and spent 6 years learning the business and taking continuing education classes. She received the GRI (graduate of the relator institute) designation in 1984 and completed an appraisal class so that she could sit for the Broker’s Licensing exam in 1985.
Over the years, as a member of the Litchfield County Board of Realtors, she served as Secretary, Treasurer and Board Director. Debbie volunteered for the indoctrination committee and welcomed a number of agents into the Board by teaching those classes.
In 1989 an opportunity arose that gave Debbie the chance to work for a larger company with more technology opportunities. She became a member of Compass Realty in Torrington. For the next 10 years Debbie increased her sphere of influence and client base and received many company awards for excellence. During these years she managed to complete her ABR(accredited buyer representative) and CRS (certified residential specialist) designations; believing that education is always a benefit.
In 1992 Compass Realty became a part of Prudential CT Realty which increased the professionalism of her business and offered her even more marketing and technology benefits. Once again she was at the top of her fellow associates by obtaining many national awards from Prudential.
A rare opportunity arose in 1988 when the Torrington office of Prudential CT Realty was put up for sale. Debbie and her husband Gary Gutowski purchased the office naming it Prudential NW Realty and later Prudential Premier Homes. Starting with only 10 agents, she built the business so that at the peak of her ownership career there were 30 agents in the office. Owning the office for 18 years gave Debbie a great insight into the business that she utilizes today with all of her clients. She believes that we should teach our clients how the home buying process works so that they can make informed decisions along the way. During this time Debbie also increased her education. She obtained the ABRM(Accredited buyer representative manager) and CRB (certified residential broker).
In 2010 Debbie obtained a mortgage broker’s license hoping to offset the terrible real estate market. She only held the license for 2 years but learned a lot about the mortgage industry that she uses in her real estate career.
In 2016 when the Prudential Franchise was about to come to a close, Debbie and Gary decided that it was time for a merger with BHHS New England Properties rather than a new franchise agreement. Debbie quite happily went back into selling homes; leaving the day to day management to the company.
To date, Debbie has helped over 1400 families’ buyer or sell a home in Connecticut.
Debbie is still affiliated with BHHS New England Properties and has happily affiliated with BHHS Florida Network Realty to help buyers and sellers in NE Florida during the winter months.
She is looking forward to helping you!
